Microneedling

SkinPen Micro-Needling is a new medical-grade, state-of-the-art precision micro needling procedure available through only medical aesthetic practices. I have to admit that when we were evaluating this micro-needling technology (also referred to microchanneling and microtherapy), that I was a bit skeptical.  It seemed to be too simple to be that effective.

Micro-needling  is designed to address acne scars, wrinkles, aging skin, and to increase the efficacy of topical skin-care products. I feel there is no better non-laser solution to address scaring than with a series of these micro-needing treatments.  Micro-needling stimulates your skin’s natural ability to produce new collagen formation, creating healthier skin. This repair process is accelerated through the formation of microscopic channels, which also allow products to penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin.

What are the benefits?

As you can see from the before and after pictures, the results are amazing. Patients see many benefits from this micro-needling process that speeds up your skin’s collagen production process.  These benefits include:

  • reversing years of sun damage,
  • improving acne scars,
  • decreasing pore size,
  • improving the tone and texture of your skin and
  • enhance the overall appearance of your aging skin.

Who is a candidate?

One of the most exciting things about micro-needling is that it can be used on all types of skin to address a wide range of problems, including any area requiring cell regeneration or an intense repair process.

Which areas of the body can be treated?

SkinPen is extremely versatile and can be used on all parts of the body including Face, neck, decollete, arms, hands, legs, abdomen and back. This versatility makes SkinPen especially helpful when addressing acne scars on the back and stretch marks on the body.

How is the procedure done?

A sterile, disposable cartridge containing 12 tiny micro-needles is attached to the tip of the pen. A thin layer of topical serum is applied to the skin, and the appropriate microchanneling depth of treatment is selected for a particular type of skin. Then the pen is glided across the targeted repair area in a gentle motion.

What does it feel like?

The unique design of SkinPen allows for individualized settings, which makes the treatment quite comfortable for our patients. The pain is very similar to a deep microdermabrasion treatment, but with many more aesthetic benefits.

How long does the procedure take?

The procedure typically takes 30 minutes, depending upon the size of the area and the severity of skin damage.

What is the downtime?

Immediately following the treatment, you will notice a healthy pink glow. We will recommend specific product protocols to aid your skin’s natural healing process. Total healing time depends on the severity of the damaged skin and the depth of the repair process required. On average, patients are lightly pink for two to three days. Some patients heal completely in 24 hours.

When will I see the results?

You will notice healthier-looking skin immediately. However, the natural repair process of your own skin continues to progress over the course of a month. Dermal collagen remodeling takes place over time, and it will continue to improve for up to six months after your final treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments required will be determined by your skincare professional based upon your individual treatment goals and the health of your skin. You will see results in one treatment, however, it is recommended that most patients receive a series of three treatments spaced about four weeks apart for optimal results. For patients with very deep wrinkles, advanced photoaging, stretch marks or very deep acne scars, the recommendation is to receive six sessions at four- to six week intervals.
